How big of a problem is sexting?
Sexting is sending someone of a explicit or graphic picture of yourself through mobile phone, or other messaging methods. Relating to this topic Colorado High School has made it to the headlines, where at least 100 students sext each other with unclothed pictures of themselves. Furthermore, according to cox.com (teen online safety survey) 80% of teens have sexted under the age of 18. Moreover, teens are pressured to do sexting and experience what it is like. This action left parents with immense wrath, therefore, police and district attorney are having a debate. In my opinion sexting is an enormous problem because people could get cyber bullied, sexters could share photos to other untrusted individuals, which may be dangerous and may result in kidnap, or rape. Rumors will spread in public about a specific person; therefore will have a bad reputation and will affect future attitude.
One of the aspects to why teens do sexting is being overwhelmed. In my personal opinion this will cause regret and eventually cyber bully. Cyber bully because many people are judgmental, especially those who are bullies, they may share the photos to others and eventually that person who sent an unclothed picture of themselves will see that. This person will also read negative comments about his or her body, which will raise this person’s insecurity level and could possibly lead into suicidal thoughts. The hideous result of sexting is like a TV show drama, where friends have acquired the photo, sharing it to everyone that sassy person knows and in the end of everything the parents will find out. Eventually, this person will get grounded and lectured. Why would teens do this even though they know that will not benefit them in a good manner? Why would you want to cause yourself trouble/stress? These are the questions, if not more questions to answer before doing sexting and possibly do not do sexting. This is basically the saying where you have to think before you speak.
Lastly, not only do sexters get suicidal thought, insecurity, but they also get themselves into a great dangerous situation because nowadays technologies are unpredictable. Current devices can allow you to know the person through social media because vital information on everybody’s social media are displayed carelessly such as, your location, date of birth, and where you attend school. This will provoke kidnappers to easily find your location and possibly kidnap you. Sexting can also affect your future attitude, or it would leave an unforgettable experience, which you remember for the rest of your life. Sexting for example is like doing something embarrassing where everyone will now remember you because of the stunt that you have caused. For example, when I was first starting out as an alter server, my superior gave a new job, which I did not really know what I am suppose to do and when my turn came I messed up my job. This mistake made my friends and other people in the church to laugh, and outcome is that people will now remember me as the kid who made a grave mistake in church. This is also the same a sexting and if people view your picture, it will eventually spread around in public and people will remember you as the kid who sent out an unclothed picture.
